Highlights

For the 18th straight year, Duke led all ACC conference schools with 362 ACC Academic Honor Roll members, who earned a grade point average of 3.0 or better.

Duke women's golf celebrate with championship trophyThe women’s golf team collected its fourth NCAA Championship with a 10-stroke victory in Columbus, Ohio.

The field hockey and women’s basketball teams were NCAA runners-up.

The Blue Devils registered five Atlantic Coast Conference tournaments and five ACC regular season titles on the year. The Duke men’s basketball, women’s golf, women’s cross country, men’s soccer, and men’s tennis teams each garnered league crowns.

Twelve teams competed in NCAA tournaments. The women’s lacrosse, women’s basketball, and field hockey teams each advanced to the NCAA Final Four, while cross country earned a third place finish. The Blue Devils had eight teams finish in the top 10 of the national rankings.

Duke finished in eighth place in the final 2006 United States Sports Academy Directors’ Cup Standings.

Awards and recognition

Eight Blue Devils were selected Academic All-America.

A total of 26 student-athletes were selected All-America.

Duke boasted 50 All-ACC selections.

The Blue Devils had two National Player of the Year honorees (J.J. Redick in basketball and Amanda Blumenherst in golf), one National Freshman of the Year (Blumenherst), and Redick was selected winner of the James E. Sullivan Award as the top Amateur Athlete.

Four Duke student-athletes received ACC Postgraduate Scholarships-- Brendan Dewan (football), Nicole Dudek (field hockey), Katie Ness (women’s swimming), and Ludovic Walter (men’s tennis).
